Nexus Vehicle Rental (Nexus), the UK's leading corporate vehicle rental provider, has appointed Bernie Waldron, a former senior international executive with IBM, as Chairman to support the business through the next stage of its growth.
Waldron arrives with 30 years of global technology experience, spanning start-ups, venture capital, private equity and public companies. He oversaw the acquisition of Maersk Data Group, which formed the basis for a new IBM global transportation business, and where, as Executive Chairman, he was responsible for 30 companies and 3,500 employees across 12 countries.
Waldron has also held Non-Executive positions with a number of companies including cloud-based service providers Node4 and APSU, advanced process modelling company PSE, Financial Services information provider Kneip and social media aggregator Amondo.
Founded in 1999, Leeds-based Nexus has access to over 500,000 rental vehicles in over 2,000 locations across the UK through its revolutionary intelligent booking and rental management system, IRIS.
The business has won numerous industry awards and twice appeared in the Sunday Times Profit Track 100, a league table of private companies with the fastest growing profit. The company attributes its success to outstanding customer service, technological innovation and quality-assessed supply partners.
Bowmark Capital, a leading private equity investment firm, acquired a majority shareholding in Nexus in December 2015.
Nexus' Chief Executive Officer, David Brennan, said: "I am delighted to welcome Bernie to the Board and I know that his broad skills and impressive track record in supporting and growing global, technology-focussed businesses will be a real asset to Nexus as we move to the next phase of our growth."
Bowmark Partner, Julian Masters, said: "This appointment is a clear signal that Nexus is aiming to continue the innovation that has underpinned its current market-leading position to drive future growth. We are sure Bernie's expertise will prove to be invaluable to the business."
Waldron said: "Nexus is a dynamic, innovative business that has grown rapidly, especially over the past three years. I am delighted to be joining at such an exciting time and I look forward to helping the management team further cement the company's position as a leader in the vehicle rental industry."
